Breaking the Chains of Poverty

Escaping poverty is difficult! Think of it as a person bound in chains. There are many locks on these chains. Locks that we have the keys to!

Education

The first lock we can break open is education. Providing supplies, uniforms, and tutoring so that the next generation can escape the poverty cycle.

Emigration

Most of the people we help are escaping worse conditions in Nicaragua. We can help them obtain their legal documents!

Employment

It is tough to get a decent job without an education and legal documentation. We are coming up with creative ways to help keep the lights on.

Puente strives to be the bridge between worlds. Connecting those who have, to those who need. We are focused on helping one specific area of San Jose. An ever changing neighborhood full of Nicaraguans escaping terrible circumstances. It is called Los Pinos because of the pine trees in the area. In reality, it is a ghetto of tin shacks with dirt floors and little sanitation. Ever growing. Ever changing. Dark, smelly, dirty, and hopeless.

“And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Jesus. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written; The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind. To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:17-19

Our partner, Pastor Efraim, has been working in this area, by himself, for more than 10 years! We can work alongside him and help bring hope. We can help others afford a high school education so that future generations do not have to live in poverty. We can bring them food to sustain them while they struggle. Teach usable skills so that they can get jobs and support their loved ones.

“Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.”  Matthew 25:44-45

We are just getting started and eager to grow into something special!
